Product Description Davis Instruments Rigging Knives - DELUXE SS KNIFE-SPIKE & SHACKLE KEY
|
| Customer Reviews: Good quality, right features, reasonable price June 25, 2010 Jeffrey J. Dunn (Mountain View, CA USA) This knife has exactly the right tools -- knife blade, marlinspike, and shackle key. Most rigging knives have the "shackle key" built into the knife blade, which is a tremendous safety problem. The Davis Instruments Deluxe Rigging Knife does not have that problem -- the shackle key and marlinspike are separate tools, which work very well. It it the highest quality? No, but it is very good quality for the price. It's holding up well, so far.
Solid Tool May 27, 2010 Grant Fritchey (MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wanted a knife to keep with my bag of paracord so that I had something available any time I was working on a project. I received this as a recommendation because of some of the books on knots that I had purchased. The inclusion of a marlin spike made the knife attractive and the price was right, so I bought it. I'm happy I did. This is a solid tool. It's well constructed and tight. While the blade doesn't lock, it has a set position that does a good job of keeping it from closing on your fingers, but since it's just a cutting implement, with no ability to poke or gouge with, that's unlikely to happen anyway. Over several months of use now it's kept a great edge and it's easy to sharpen. It's cutting my rope quite well, and I couldn't be happier with it.
Chinese junk August 16, 2009 Gary McWhorter (N'awlins) 7 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought this knife because it had a shackle key, which my previous purchase of a S&W Cuttin' Horse Marlinspike Smith & Wesson Cuttin Horse Marlin Spike Pocket Knife knife did not have. However this knife, which came factory sealed, had a finish that could best be described as a 2 year old display sample, i.e. scratches all over it. I tried a metal polish, and also an electric buffer, but to no avail, which made me think the metal stock must have been defective. The rivets looked hand hammered, and all had sharp, rough edges. The Cuttin' Horse, also made in China, at least had a non-slip finish, was easier to open and close, and had a locking blade. If your life may someday depend on your choice of knives, go with the Myerchin BW300P Offshore 3/4 Serrated knifeMYERCHIN BW300P OFFSHORE FOLDER 3/4 SERRATED PRO SAILING RIGGING KNIFE. If you want to practice rope skills in the safety of your den, save a few dollars, then buy the S&W Cuttin' Horse Marlinspike. But this Davis knife is junk, and is suitable only as a paperweight, depending on your taste in paperweights.
