5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended   April 8, 2010

Wonderful field guide for the discerning scuba diver and/or snorkeler, loaded with spectacular photos and useful info. It's easy to use, handy to travel with, robust and printed on high-quality paper. Strangely enough, neither I nor my dive club buddies ever had any of the problems with a supposedly defective binding mentioned in one of the other reviews - and we're giving our copies quite a rough handling on an almost daily basis. In fact it's holding up better than other books by other publishers. No complaints whatsoever - it's a great book for all fish and critters lovers worldwide, and well worth its price. Strongly recommended to all who want to discover more about tropical marine life.

4 out of 5 stars Good basic book   March 30, 2010

Good book, I use it a lot but it lacks depth. I guess I thought it would have more creatures. It is basic but I can find more info on line for free.

2 out of 5 stars Nice photos & printing, but very poor binding   March 24, 2010

I saw the review of others mentioning about the poor binding. Not until I received this book to realize how bad it is. "No way to keep pages in place". I cannot understand how could a publisher shipped defective bind books like this, and it wasn't the first print edition.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful Little Book...   February 12, 2010

This is a great little book. (Though, I emphasize the word, little.) I was looking for a detailed aquatic life guide with beautiful pictures, and this is definitely it. I had read all the wonderful reviews, and was running out of Christmas shopping time. I thought that $60 was a little pricier than I was hoping for, but it sounded like a great book and I thought, what the heck... I totally neglected to check out the book's dimensions. I was really surprised to see how small it was when it came in the mail. I'm a little disappointed as I thought that it would be more coffee-table-book sized. That being said, it is a wonderful book, and totally my fault for ignoring the posted dimensions. My boyfriend has recently taken up diving, and was really happy to get it for Christmas. He loves flipping through all the beautiful photos; we are not well educated in marine habitats, but it seems really informative and detailed. We both like that it has coral species and other non-fish categories inside. I guess the size of the book makes it pretty handy, but I bet the gorgeous photographs would have been even more fantastic if it was just a little bigger. I guess, overall, it is a great book, but the price is a bit steep for a book this size.

2 out of 5 stars overpriced and shoddily made   February 16, 2009

Although this book contains some great photos to help in identifying fish, it is poorly made; I've barely used it and the binding is already separating. Also, it could have used better proofreading by a native English speaker. Considering that it cost $60, it's a very small book (a fact I neglected to notice before ordering). Unfortunately, at that price I don't think I can recommend it to anyone else.
